The author gives a definition for an \(n\)-dimensional surface \(F^n\) of the Euclidean \(m\)-space \(E^m\) \((m>n)\) to be helicoidal [for \(n=2\) and \(m\geq 4\), see \textit{E. R. Rozendorn}, Vestn. Mosk. Univ., Ser. I 2, 47--50 (1979; Zbl 0406.53045)]. In particular this implies the existence of a coordinate system such that the metric of \(F^n\) has the form \[ ds^2=dx^2_1+\phi^2(x_1)\sum^n_{i=2}\tilde g_{ii}(x_2,\dots,x_n)\,dx^2_i \tag{1} \] where \(\tilde g_{ii}>0\) \((i=2,\dots,n)\). The author proves that on each complete helicoidal surface \(F^n\subset E^m\) \((m>n)\) of class \(C^k\) \((k\geq 3)\), the metric (1) has the property that \(\phi'\) is bounded. As a consequence, one shows that there is no complete helicoidal surface of class \(C^k\) \((k\geq 3)\) with strictly negative sectional curvature. In particular, the Lobachevskii space \(L^n\) cannot be isometrically embedded in \(E^m\) \((m>n)\) as a helicoidal surface of class \(C^k\) \((k\geq 3)\). These are generalizations of some previous results obtained by E. R. Rozendorn (loc. cit.) and \textit{L. A. Masal'tsev} [Ukr. Geom. Sb. 26, 100--103 (1983; Zbl 0532.53008)].
