The propagation of plane harmonic waves in a homogeneous transversely isotropic thermally conducting elastic solid is discussed. Three types of plane waves, namely, quasi-longitudinal (QL), quasi-transverse (QT) and thermal wave (T-mode) are shown to exist. The velocities of these waves are found to depend on the angle of propagation and the frequency of the waves. The low and high frequency approximations have been obtained for the speeds of propagation and the attenuation coefficients of these waves. The reflection coefficients of these waves incident at the free surface of a transversely isotropic elastic half-space which is thermally insulated, are derived. Some special cases of reflection have also been discussed.
