This paper considers the problem of obtaining the equilibrium configurations of a rotating axially symmetric body consisting of a perfect fluid under the influence of its own gravitational field. Both the Newtonian and the Einstein gravitational theories are considered. Numerical studies are included. The situation is complicated by the fact that outward radial integration requires known central values. However, it is not known apriori which of these values will result in suitable boundary conditions at infinity for the gravitational field, i.e., correspond to true self-gravitational equilibrium.
