Some internal wave soliton diffusion effects over an uneven bottom (Q1098374)

This paper is concerned with the propagation of nonlinear internal waves at the interface of two ponderable fluids when the corresponding nonlinear equations can be solved in accordance with the scheme of the inverse scattering problem. This scheme is applied to concrete initial data that follow from the formulation of the problem. In the first part of the paper the Korteweg-de Vries equation for internal waves is derived for two layers of fluid of comparable depth. In the second part of the paper we investigate the scattering of an internal wave by background inhomogeneities and the asymptotic behavior of the reflected and refracted waves.
