On fixed point results (Q1098396)

This paper presents four fixed point theorems for a family of self maps satisfying variants of contraction mapping on a compact Hausdorff space, complete metric space, pseudo compact Hausdorff space, and a Hausdorff space. Theorem 1 improves upon a result of Maiti and Ghosh whereas Theorem 2 is a generalization of the results of Iseki and Chattopadyay. The remaining two theorems proved in the paper are suitable modifications over the results of Bajaj which have been shown invalid with the help of a counter example. Finally, it has been observed that the decreasing property of the sequence in one of the results proved by Rao and Rao is not necessary.
