In equations describing physical problems the presence of more than one solution may sometimes create complications. This fact is a motivation for the devising of a simple criterion by which the uniqueness of the solution of a class of equations is guaranteed. Here such a criterion is derived for equations of the form \(u=Au+f\), where A is a mapping of a given complete supermatic (in the sense of L. Collatz) space X into X and f a given element of X. For the process described by \(u_{n+1}=Au_ n+f\), where \(u_ 0\) is a prechosen element of X the convergence to the unique solution of the given equation is proved. The example of a Hammerstein equation in the space C(0,1) is also given.
