[See also: the author, ibid. 18, 889-991 (1980; Zbl 0436.73027).] We study the propagation of wave fronts in non-conducting thermoelastic materials within the framework of relativistic continuum mechanics. Expressions are derived for determining the velocities of propagation of wave fronts and transport equations for the wave amplitudes. The results are compared with known results in relativistic and classical continuum mechanics. We also examine in some detail the effect of prestress on the growth and decay of wave amplitudes.
