We consider the steady state scattering of waves by a crack of finite width. Formal expressions for the large wavenumber expansion of the crack opening displacements are given. These expressions are valid for an arbitrary incident wave. Explicit expressions are given for incidence of a plane wave. For this example, we have analytically verified the geometrical theory of diffraction.
