Invertible definitions (Q1098828)

This paper has two parts: A brief philosophical motivation followed by a technically complex development of conditions for certain types of definability. From some suggestion of P. Geach about when having the concept of one relation is to have the concept of another relation, the author characterizes the notion of informationally equivalent relations with his technical notion of ``R determines S.'' See \textit{P. T. Geach}: Mental acts, 2nd. ed. (Routledge, London 1971). His main result is that two relations are informationally equivalent iff each can be defined in terms of the other without quantifiers.
