    Let X be a Banach space. An operator T on X is called a Gellar basis shift if there is a scalar sequence \(\{W_ n\}\) and a normalized basis \(\{x_ n\}\) of X such that \(Tx_ n=w_ nx_{n+1}\). In this case, we say that the basis \(\{x_ n\}\) is Gellar shiftable by T. An operator T on X is said to be a Crownover shift if T is injective, has closed range, and co-rank one and \(x=0\) whenever x is in \(\cap^{\infty}_{n=1}T^ n(x)\). The author shows that there exist Crownover shifts which cannot be classified as Gellar basis shifts. Also, some Gellar basis shifts fail to be Crownover shifts. There are some results established by the author. A typical one is the following: Theorem. Let T be a Crownover shift on a reflexive Banach space X. The operator T shifts a basis in the Gellar sense if and only if \(T^ nL^ n\) is uniformly bounded for some left inverse L of T.
