Let X be a smooth projective curve over a finite field F. Write \(\bar F\) for the algebraic closure of F, and \(\bar X\) for the extension of X to \(\bar F.\) The author uses the results of \textit{D. Quillen} [see Algebraic K-theory I, Proc. Conf. Battelle Inst.1972, Lect. Notes Math. 341, 85-147 (1973; Zbl 0292.18004) and Ann. Math., II. Ser. 96, 552-586 (1972; Zbl 0249.18022)], \textit{C. Soulé} [Math. Ann. 268, 317-345 (1984; Zbl 0573.14001)] and \textit{A. Suslin} [Invent. Math. 73, 241-245 (1983; Zbl 0514.18008)] to prove that the odd-dimensional K-theory of \(\bar X\) is the sum of two copies of the K-theory of \(\bar F.\) In the remainder the author gives two plausible conjectures which would suffice to compute the K-theory of X itself. These provisional computations are related to the L-functions of X.
