In Proc. R. Soc. Edinb. Sect. A 89, 63-74 (1981; Zbl 0491.32007), \textit{E. L. Stout} examined the following question: Given a bounded domain of holomorphy D in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\), \(n\geq 2\), and a closed subset K of bD, let \(\Omega\subset D\) be open such that \(\Omega\cup (bD\setminus K)\) is a neighborhood of bD\(\setminus K\) in \(\bar D.\) Given an analytic function f on \(\Omega\), when is there an analytic function F on D which agrees with f near bD. Here, the author continues his study on the analogous problem for CR functions [see, for example, Pac. J. Math. 124, 177-191 (1986; Zbl 0597.32014)]. Specifically, let K and D be as above, with \(n\geq 3\) and such that bD\(\setminus K\) is a connected real hypersurface of class \(C^ 1\) in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\setminus K\), and let f be a complex valued continuous function on bD\(\setminus K\) satisfying the weak tangential Cauchy-Riemann equation. The author finds sufficient conditions on D and K which ensure that f admits a unique holomorphic extension to D which is continuous on \(\bar D\setminus K\). One such condition is that there is an open neighborhood \(N\supset K\) in \(\bar D\) such that \(\tilde K_ N=K\) and such that \(\tilde K_{\bar D}\cap bD=K\). Here, \(\tilde K_ N\) is the complement in N of all points \(z\in N\) such that for some \(\phi\) which is holomorphic on N, \(\phi\) has no zeros on K and \(\phi (z)=0\). The author uses this result to obtain several sufficient geometric conditions for extendibility of CR functions, as well as a Hartogs' type theorem for certain domains in a Levi-flat real hypersurface in an open subset of \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\), \(n\geq 3\).
