Let J be a Jordan algebra over a field \(\Phi\) of characteristic \(\neq 2\). A bimodule V over J is called prime if for any \(v\in V\) and ideal I of J, from \(vI=0\) it follows that either \(v=0\) or \(I=0\). If J is a Jordan algebra which does not satisfy an essential polynomial identity, and V is a prime bimodule over J, then the Jordan algebra \(V+J\) is special. Let U be the universal associative enveloping algebra of J, \(\hat U=U+\Phi \cdot 1\), and \(S(\hat U \otimes_{\Phi}\hat U)\) be the subalgebra of invariant elements under the interchanging automorphism on \(\hat U \otimes_{\Phi} \hat U\). If J is a simple Jordan algebra with 1, which is infinite-dimensional over its center and is not isomorphic to a Jordan algebra of a symmetric bilinear form, then the universal multiplicative enveloping algebra of J is \(S(\hat U \otimes_{\Phi}\hat U)\). The author also shows that if J has an exact irreducible representation, then one of five specific cases must occur.
