In this article the work on projective modules over directly finite von Neumann regular rings satisfying the comparability axiom (see [\textit{K. R. Goodearl}: Von Neumann regular rings (1979; Zbl 0411.16007)]) is continued, which was initiated by the first author in Part I [Osaka J. Math. 22, 815-819 (1985; Zbl 0575.16008)]. He had shown, among other things, that the present class of rings splits into three disjoint subclasses fixed by the character of the decompositions of the directly finite projective modules into direct sums of cyclic submodules. The precise definition of these classes is too technical to be cited here. The aim of the present paper is to indicate a more handy characterization of this classification. It is shown as a corollary that a projective module over a ring as above is directly infinite if and only if it contains as a direct summand the countably infinite direct sum of isomorphic non-zero submodules.
