The author studies the strong asymptotic convergence as \(t\to +\infty\) of the solutions of \[ u'(t)+ Au(t)+ G(u)\ni f(t),\;t>0,\;u(0)=u_ 0. \tag{1} \] Here A is a maximal monotone (possibly multivalued) operator defined on a subset D(A) contained in a real Hilbert space H, \(u_ 0\in \overline{D(A)},\) \(f\in L^ 1(0,+\infty;H)\) and \(G(\cdot)\) is a given mapping \[ G: C([0,+\infty):\overline{D(A)})\to L^ 1_{loc}([0,+\infty):H). \] Problems of the type (1) have been considered by many authors both from the point of view of the existence theory and for the asymptotic properties of the solutions. It is shown that under some suitable hypothesis, the bounded soluion to (1) converge strongly as \(t\to +\infty\) to an equilibrium of A. Let F be the set \(F=\{x\in H: 0\in Ax\}\). In the following, it is assumed that \((G_ 1)\) For every \(u,v\in C([0,+\infty):\overline{D(A)})\) and every \(T>0\) we have \(\int^{t}_{0}(G(u)(s)-G(v)(s),u(s)-v(s))ds\geq 0\); \((G_ 2)\) there exists \(k_ i\in L^ 1([0,+\infty):{\mathbb{R}})(i=1,2)\) such that for every \(z(t)\equiv z\in \overline{D(A)}\| G(z)(t)\| <k_ 1(t)\| z\| +k_ 2(t),\) \((G_ 3)\) \(f\in L^ 1([0,+\infty):H)\); \((G_ 4)\) there exists \(\psi\in L^ 1([0,+\infty):{\mathbb{R}})\) such that for every \(\hat p\in F\) and \(0\leq s\leq t<+\infty\) we have \[ \int^{t}_{s}(G(u)(\sigma)-G(\hat p)(\sigma),u(\sigma)-\hat p)d\sigma \geq \int^{t}_{s} \psi(\sigma) d\sigma. \] The following theorem 3.1 is the main result: Let A be a maximal monotone operator on H satisfying the convergence condition. Let u be the strong solution of \(u'(t)+W(t)+G(u)(t)=f(t),\) \(W(t)\in Au(t)\), \(u(0)=u_ 0\). Suppose that \((G_ 1)-(G_ 4)\) hold. If there exists \(\alpha \in [1,+\infty]\) such that \(W\in L^{\alpha}([0,+\infty):H),\) then there exists \(p\in F\) such that \(\lim_{t\to +\infty}u(t)=p.\) In some cases, strong convergence of the solutions of a related Volterra equation is obtained.
