The Peller-Khrushchev conjecture [see, \textit{S. V. Khrushchev} and \textit{V. V. Peller}, Moduli of Hankel operators, past and future, in: V. P. Khavin, S. V. Khrushchev and N. K. Nikol'skij (eds.), Linear and complex analysis. Problem book. 199 research problems, Lect. Notes Math. 1043 (Berlin 1984), pp. 92-97. (For a review of the whole book, see Zbl 0545.30038.)] is as follows: If \(\{a_ n\}\) is a sequence of positive numbers which is non-increasing and converges to zero, does there exist a Hankel operator \(\Gamma\) whose n-th singular value is \(a_ n\). The authors prove a slightly more general theorem by constructing a linear system whose associated Hankel operator has the appropriate s-numbers.
