An oval in a Steiner triple system of order v is a subset \(\theta\) of the point-set such that no three points of \(\theta\) are collinear and with the property that each point of \(\theta\) lies on exactly one tangent line. The oval is said to be regular if each point not of the oval which lies on a tangent is contained in precisely two tangents. A necessary condition for a regular oval to exist is \(v\equiv 1\) or \(9\quad mod 12.\) In the paper of the author and \textit{H. Lenz} [J. Comb. Inf. Syst. Sci. 9, No.3, 155-162 (1984; see the review above)] for each value \(v\equiv 1\) or \(9\quad mod 12\) a Steiner triple system of order v containing a regular oval was actually constructed; in the present paper the author shows that the Steiner triple systems of that construction enjoy the further property of being of dimension 2, which means they are generated by three non-collinear points.
