Über einige Eigenschaften der Affinoberfläche beliebiger konvexer Körper. (On some properties of the affine surface area of arbitrary convex bodies) (Q1103197)

With a suitable definition of the affine surface area \(0_{aff}(\partial K)\) of a convex body K in \(R_ n\) [the author, Manuscr. Math. 56, 429- 464 (1986; Zbl 0588.52011)] the author shows that \(0_{aff}(\partial K)\) has properties analogous to that of the ordinary surface area \(0(\partial K)\) (affine invariance, additivity, upper continuity, monotony, homogeneity and positivity). If K is restricted to be a so-called body of elliptic type, some of these properties can be strengthened. Moreover a new proof of the affine isoperimetric inequality is given, which applies to more general convex bodies than those usually considered in earlier papers. Finally the author gives a detailed discussion of the behaviour of \(0_{aff}\) under Steiner's symmetrization. Many partial results have interest by themselves.
