Approximation of fluids with fading memory in retarted motion (Q1103445)

In this description of asymptotic results in the theory of constitutive relations for incompressible simple fluids with gradually fading memory, the emphasis is laid on the relation between approximations of the Boltzmann-Volterra type, which hold for arbitrarily rapid motions, provided the strain is kept small, and approximations of the Navier- Stokes type, which hold in the limit of slow motions, even if the strain increases in time.
