Leśniewski style rules of definition, traditionally, allow introducing definitions as material equivalence within the object language. The author points out several limitations in using such rules, and offers a rule for defining connectives (an later - for predicate and function symbols) which has a wider range of application. This rule requires definitions to be two-way inference rules, schematizable in a certain sense.
