Let \(|.|\) and \(\|.\|\) denote the Euclidean and the \(L^{\infty}\)-norm on \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) respectively. The conjecture of Kömlos says that for each set of vectors \(v_ 1,...,v_ k\in {\mathbb{R}}^ n\) with \(| v_ i| \leq 1\) there is a set of signs \(\epsilon_ i=\pm 1\) with \(\| \epsilon_ 1v_ 1+...+\epsilon_ kv_ k\| \leq L\) and L being independent of n. The author proves a result giving some evidence against this conjecture, and he conjectures \(L\geq c\sqrt{\log n}\) with c being independent of n.
