    Let \({\mathcal P}_ n\) be the set of polynomials of degree \(\leq n\). Let w(x) be the weight function, nonnegative in \({\mathbb{R}}\), positive on a set of positive measure, such that all the powers of moments of w(x), namely \(\int^{\infty}_{-\infty}x\) jw(x)dx, \(j=0,1,...\), are finite. Let \(\{p_ n(w\) \(2,x)\}_ 1^{\infty}\) be the sequence of orthonormal polynomials with respect to the weight w 2, and let \(\{\alpha_ n\}\) and \(\{\beta_ n\}\) the coefficients in the recurrence relation \[ xp_ n(w^ 2,x)=\alpha_{n+1}p_{n+1}(w^ 2,x)+\beta_ n(w^ 2,x)+\alpha_ np_{n-1}(w^ 2\quad,x). \] If there exist an increasing sequence of positive numbers \(\{c_ n\}_ 1^{\infty}\) and a decreasing sequence of positive numbers \(\{\delta_ n\}\), such that \(\lim_{n\to \infty}\delta_ n=0\), \(\| PW\|_{L_ 2({\mathbb{R}})}\leq (1+\delta_ n)\| PW\|_{L_ 2(-c_ n,c_ n)},\) for \(n\in {\mathbb{N}}\) and \(P\in {\mathcal P}_ n\), and if there exist the polynomials \(s_{n-2}\in {\mathcal P}_{n-2}\) with \(n\geq 2\), such that \[ \lim_{n\to \infty}\frac{1}{\pi}\int^{1}_{-1}| w(c_ nx)s_{n- 2}(x)(1-x^ 2)^{1/4}| \quad p\cdot dx/\sqrt{1-x^ 2}=1 \] for \(p=\) and \(p=2\). Then \(\lim_{n\to \infty}\alpha_ n/c_ n=\) and \(\lim \beta_ n/c_{n+1}=0.\) As a special case, we obtain a sufficient condition for Freud's conjecture with weights on \({\mathbb{R}}\).
