The ``interpretation process'' can be summarized as follows: for a sequence of fuzzy subsets over a finite input alphabet the interpretation process produces another sequence of fuzzy subsets over another finite output alphabet. The concept of the fuzzy automaton plays the basic role in the construction of the interpretation process. An application to automatic speech recognition is discussed.
