The transfer function analysis of various schemes for the two-dimensional shallow-water equations (Q1104807)

We discuss the exact solution of the shallow-water equations with no mean flow. We obtain an expression for the phase speed and both group velocities. One part of this paper will be devoted to various finite element and finite difference approximations to the system. The phase speed and group velocities of the schemes will be compared to the exact solutions. The rectangular bilinear elements and the isosceles triangular linear elements are at least as good as the staggered fourth-order C- scheme.
