The paper deals with the periodic boundary value problem \(u^{(4)}+f(u)u'+g(x,u)=e(x)\) on [0,2\(\pi\) ], \(u(0)-u(2\pi)=u'(0)- u'(2\pi)=u''(0)-u''(2\pi)=u\prime''(0)-u\prime''(2\pi)=0,\) where \(f: R\to R\) is continuous, \(e\in L^ 1(0,2\pi)\) and g: [0,2\(\pi\) ]\(\times R\to R\) satisfies the Caratheodory conditions. Using Mawhin's version of the Leray-Schauder continuation theorem [\textit{J. Mawhin}, Conf. Semin. Mat. Univ. Bari 147 (1977; Zbl 0436.47050)] the author proves existence theorems for the given problem and its special case \(f=const\). R.
