The following problem arises from models for carrier facilitated diffusion through a membrane separating two ``well-stirred'' reservoirs. \[ \dot s=D_ ss''+\bar kp-ksc,\quad s(O,t)=s_ 0,\quad s(\ell,t)=s \] \[ \dot c=D_ cc''+\bar kp-ksc,\quad c'(0,t)=c'(\ell,t)=0 \] \[ \dot p=D_ pc''-\bar kp+ksc,\quad p'(0,t)=p'(\ell,t)=0 \] \[ s(x,0)=s\quad 0(x),\quad c(x,0)=c\quad 0(x),\quad p(x,0)=p\quad 0(x) \] where \(\cdot \equiv \partial /\partial t\), \('\equiv \partial /\equiv \partial x\), s,c, and p denote the concentration of substate, free carrier, and bound carrier respectively. \(D_ s\), \(D_ c\), \(D_ p\) are corresponding diffusion rates and k and \(\bar k\) are chemical reaction constants. Existence and uniqueness of stationary solutions to (1) as well as continuous dependence of solutions on the mean carrier density \(C\equiv (1/\ell)\int^{t}_{0}(c(x)+p(x))dx\) are proved.
