A systematic approach to the treatment of symmetric equilibria with flow is established by reducing the model equations to a set of scalar equations in the presence of spatial symmetry. The reduction procedure is possible because of the existence of a number of integrals associated with the perfect conductivity condition and conservation of momentum. The reduced equation obtained as a result consist of a second order quasi- linear partial differential equation for a magnetic flux function and a nonlinear, algebraic, Bernoulli-type equation for the mass density, which is coupled to the PDE for the magnetic flux function. The basic equations of perfectly conducting MHD flows have been reduced in terms of coordinate system. For the Mercier coordinate MHD equilibria have been discussed.
