An M(t)/G/\(\infty\) stochastic service system is used to study the number of individuals (live larvae) in a typical cell (of water in Western Lake Erie) at time t. The inputs are given by a nonhomogeneous Poisson arrival process which is approximated by the superposition of k homogeneous Poisson processes. It is assumed a Weibull distribution (with mean m and variance v) of the service (times of residence of individuals in the live larval state). For the proposed model, varying the values of the k, m, v parameters, the total seasonal production of larvae is estimated. Sensitivity analyses of these parameters are also studied.
