This article is part of a series of papers of the author [Acta Arith. 48, 117--144; 307--323 (1987; Zbl 0569.10007; Zbl 0576.10013), Contemp. Math. 77, 83--94 (1988; see the preceding review Zbl 0653.10018)] generalizing results of W. M. Schmidt to algebraic number fields. The main result of the present paper assures the existence of a linear subspace of prescribed dimension, spanned by ``short'' integral vectors, of the set of zeros of a system of homogeneous forms in sufficiently many variables having coefficients in a (fixed) totally complex number field. This is a consequence of a more general result in which the forms are allowed to have arbitrary complex coefficients and the spanning set of vectors above is replaced by linearly independent vectors on which the multilinear forms associated to the given homogeneous forms assume small values.
