Let \(C_ p(X)\) denote the space of continuous real functions on X with pointwise topology. The main theorem says that \(C_ p(C_ p(X))\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, whenever X is the one-point compactification of a discrete space. By taking X as the one-point compactification of an uncountable discrete space the author obtains an example of a space for which both \(C_ p(X)\) and \(C_ p(C_ p(X))\) are Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)- spaces but the net-weight of X is uncountable. This provides a negative answer to a problem of \textit{A. V. Arkhangelskij} [Proc. 5th Prague Topol. Symp. 1981, 24-36 (1983; Zbl 0531.54016)].
