We denote by \({\mathcal P}_ 0\) the totality of probability measures on R \(+=[0;+\infty)\). A ``generalized convolution'' was defined by \textit{K. Urbanik} [Stud. Math. 23, 217-245 (1964; Zbl 0171.395)] as a binary operation o on \({\mathcal P}_ 0\). We study the possibility of constructing from Urbanik algebras hypercomplex systems with locally compact basis. It is shown that under certain additional assumptions a generalized convolution generates a hypercomplex system, and so some theorems of harmonic analysis that are true for hypercomplex systems can be extended to Urbanik algebras. An example of such a convolution is given.
