Logarithmic transformations introduced by Kodaira perform an elliptic surface and reduce it to an elliptic surface free from multiple fibers. The difficulty in the generalisation of logarithmic transformation over an elliptic threefold \(f: X\to S\) is that we cannot perform a logarithmic transformation along arbitrary divisors on S. Let C be a smooth curve on the surface S. In theorem 2.1., the author gives a sufficient condition on the normal bundle of C in S for the existence of an elliptic threefold X with multiple fiber of multiplicity m along C, dividing C.C and gives interesting corollaries. In {\S} 3 by using logarithmic transformation he constructs examples of non-Kähler degenerations \(S_ 0\) of a family \(S_ t\), such that \(\kappa (S_ 0)>\kappa (S_ t)\)- a counterexample of Iitaka's conjecture, cf. also \textit{K. Nishiguchi} [Math. Ann. 263, 377-383 (1983; Zbl 0497.14014)]. Note that Iitaka's conjecture holds for Kähler families [cf. \textit{K. Ueno} in Classification of algebraic and analytic manifolds, Proc. Sympos. Katata 1982, Prog. Math. 39, 545-566 (1983; Zbl 0578.14035)]. In {\S} 4 the author constructs several examples of logarithmic transformations along divisors with normal crossings and an example of an elliptic threefold with a multiple fiber of type mI and a singular fiber of type I along the divisors which are crossing normally.
