It is known that the principal cones of algebraic power series can be obtained as solutions of algebraic systems. In the paper, algebraic systems are generalized to matrix systems. By applying a regulated rational representation to an algebraic system, a regulated matrix system is obtained. This fact leads to the characterization of algebraic power series as strong solutions of regulated matrix systems. The case of the power series over a Boolean semiring is considered. The interested reader must be familiar with the theory of algebraic power series and the theory of abstract families of algebraic power series. A complete monograph in the field is ``Semirings, automata, languages'' by the author and \textit{A. Salomaa} (1986; Zbl 0582.68002).
