The author considers the Alexander module A of a classical link of m components, localized with respect to a certain subset S of the ring \(\Lambda ={\mathbb{Z}}[t_ 1,t_ 1^{-1},...,t_ m,t_ m^{-1}],\) giving the module \(A_ s\). By expressing the longitudes as linear combinations of the meridians, he shows that a symmetric presentation of \(A_ S\) may be obtained in the case where all the linking numbers of the pairs of components are zero, and he states that there is a, more complicated, general result. There follows an investigation of how surgery on the link changes (the presentation of) \(A_ S\), and a characterization in the case \(m=2\) of the localized Alexander polynomial.
