The authors study partial geometric lattices which were introduced in Meyerowitz' thesis and in ``Partial geometric lattices: I. Regularity conditions'' by \textit{A. Meyerowitz} and \textit{R. Miskimins} [J. Stat. Plann. Inference 17, 21-50 (1987; Zbl 0639.05010)]. These generalize the partial geometries of \textit{R. C. Bose} [``Strongly regular graphs, partial geometries and partially balanced designs'', Pac. J. Math. 13, 389-419 (1963; Zbl 0118.339)] which are just the rank 3 partial geometric lattices. The general definition is too technical to be reproduced here. The authors are mainly concerned with the rank 4 case; their main result shows that a rank 4 partial geometric lattice gives rise to an association scheme on the points. This is the analogue of Bose's classical result stating that the collinearity graph of a partial geometry is a strongly regular graph.
