There are two main methods of geometric approach to the Schottky problem. One is by Andreotti and Mayer who use the singularities of the theta divisor \(\Theta\). Let \({\mathcal A}_ g\) be the moduli space of principal polarized abelian varieties of dimension g. They proved that the adherence of jacobians in \({\mathfrak A}_ g\) is an irreducible component of the subvariety of \({\mathcal A}_ g\) formed of principal polarized abelian varieties \((A,\Theta)\) with dim(Sing\((\Theta))\geq g-4.\) Another proof is by Weil who approaches on the basis of the reducibility of \(\Theta \cap \Theta_ a\). This leads to four conditions such that a principal polarized abelian variety \((A,\Theta)\) be jacobian. The present authors prove that, roughly speaking, each of these conditions implies the Andreotti-Mayer condition.
