On regular splittings of an M-matrix (Q1112141)

Some results on regular splittings of M-matrices are proved. The study is motivated by a recent work of \textit{H. Schneider} [ibid. 58, 407-424 (1984; Zbl 0561.65020)]. It is shown, first, that if A is a nonsingular M-matrix and \(A=M-N\) is a regular splitting then this splitting is a graph compatible one, and if A is just an M-matrix but \(A=M-N\) is an L- regular splitting then the splitting is also graph compatible. The result obtained by Schneider (loc. cit.) for the structure of matrix \(M^{-1}N\) in the case of M-splitting is extended by the author for regular splittings, and necessary and sufficient conditions for weakly regular splittings are clarified. The relationship between an L-regular splitting and an M-splitting is considered as well.
