Distinguished Köthe spaces (Q1113042)

A characterization of distinguished Köthe spaces in terms of the defining matrix is given. The proof is direct and very elementary. It leads to a scheme for constructing counterexamples which includes the Köthe-Grothendieck counterexample. A different characterization has been given, in the framework of a general theory, by \textit{K. D. Bierstedt} and \textit{J. Bonet}: ``Stefan Heinrich's density condition for Fréchet spaces and the characterization of distinguished Köthe echelon spaces'', to appear in Math. Nachr. [cf. also C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Ser. 303, 459-462 (1986; Zbl 0595.46006)].
