It is proved that if \(X_ 1\subset X_ 2\subset..\). is a tower of metric spaces then the identity bijction \(2^{dir \lim X_ n}\to dir \lim 2^{X_ n}\), where \(2^ X\) stands for the hyperspace of non-empty compact subsets of X and dir lim for direct limit, is a homeomorphism if the spaces are locally compact. This theorem is applied to towers of generalized Peano continua such that each \(X_ n\) is a closed and nowhere dense subset of \(X_{n+1}\). Due to this specific hypothesis, the Hilbert cube manifolds \(2^{X_ n}\) are Z-subsets of the Hilbert cube manifolds \(2^{X_{n+1}}\). It is proved, in consequence, that \(2^{dir \lim X_ n}\) is homeomorphic to the direct limit of a tower of Hilbert subcubes \(Q_ n\) of the Hilbert cube \([0,1]^{\infty}\), where \(Q_ n=\{t\in [0,1]^{\infty}:\) \(t_ i\neq 0\) implies \(i\in J_ n\}\), where \(J_ n\) are subsets of positive integers such that \(J_ n\subset J_{n+1}\) and \(J_{n+1}-J_ n\) is infinite for each n. This direct limit of \(Q_ n's\) is known to be topologically the same independently on the choice of the sequence of \(J_ n's\). Denoting this limit by \(Q_{\infty}\), the result claims that \(2^{dir \lim X_ n}=Q_{\infty}\) topologically for described above towers of generalized Peano continua.
