    Using the Bers-Royden version of the \(\lambda\)-lemma the author obtains new characterizations of quasicircles and studies regular b-groups. Also he obtains results about projective structures whose developing maps are coverings. For an example he proves the following theorem: Theorem 1. The following conditions are equivalent: a) D is a quasidisk, b) there exists an \(\epsilon >0\) such that every holomorphic function f on D with \(S_ f\in B_ 2(D)\) and \(\| S_ f\| <\epsilon\) is univalent on D, c) every direction in \(B_ 2(D)\) is good, and d) \({\mathcal L}\) is surjective; where D is a simply connected hyperbolic domain in \({\bar {\mathbb{C}}}={\mathbb{C}}\cup \{\infty \}\); \(B_ 2(D)\) consists of holomorphic functions \(\phi\) on D with \[ \phi (z)=O(| z|^{-4}),\quad z\to \infty,\quad if\quad \infty \in D, \] and \(\lambda^{-2}(\phi)\in L^{\infty}(D)\) \((\lambda_ D(z)| dz| =\lambda (z)| dz|\) is the Poincaré metric on D); \(S_ f\) is the Schwarzian derivative; \(\phi \in B_ 2(D)\), \(\phi\neq 0\), is called a good direction, provided there exists an \(\epsilon >0\) such that for all \(| t| <\epsilon\) there exists a univalent f on D with \(S_ f=t\phi\); \({\mathcal L}_ E={\mathcal L}: L^{\infty}(E)\to B_ 2(D)\) is the bounded linear operator \[ ({\mathcal L}\nu)(z)=(3!/2\pi i)\iint_{E}(\nu (\zeta)/(\zeta -z)^ 4)d\zeta d{\bar \zeta},\quad z\in D,\quad E={\bar {\mathbb{C}}}\setminus D. \]
