    Let T be a non-empty set and (X,d) a complete metric space, endow the set \({\mathcal M}\) of mappings from T into X with the supremum metric \(\rho_ d\), let \({\mathcal A}\subset {\mathcal M}\) be closed and consider a mapping F from \(T\times X\) into the closed subsets of X. Suppose that for each \(\phi\in {\mathcal A}\) there is an \(f\in {\mathcal A}\) such that f(t)\(\in F(t,\phi (t))\) for every \(t\in T\). Assume, moreover, that there is a \(k\in [0,1)\) such that (with \(d_ H\) being the Hausdorff metric) \(d_ H(F(t,x),F(t,y))\leq kd(x,y)\) for each \(t\in T\) and \(x,y\in X\). Suppose finally that there is a \(\phi_ 0\in {\mathcal A}\) with \(\rho_ d(\phi_ 0,F(\cdot,\phi (\cdot))<\infty\). The main result then states that there is a \(\phi^*\in {\mathcal A}\) such that \(\phi^*(t)\in F(t,f(t))\) for all \(t\in T\) and that \(\rho_ d(\phi^*,\phi_ 0)<\infty\). The author then considers several special cases by specializing T to be a topological or measurable space.
