The genetic-mating structure of subdivided populations. II: Correlated mating models (Q1113834)

In part I of this paper, ibid. 27, 51-74 (1985; Zbl 0611.92015), the joint genotypic structure of parents and their offspring is analyzed. The process of genetic transmission at a single locus under the effects of uniparental selfing, biparental inbreeding and population substructure is described by three parameters: the effective selfing rate, the inbreeding assortative mating rate and the inbreeding coefficient of the parents. In this paper two further models of mating systems are considered: the ``progeny-pair model'' consisting of a maternal parent and a pair of progeny descended from there, and the ``mating-pair model'' which analyzes a diploid mating pair and their entire progeny. In both cases the joint genotypic structure is generated actually by only four genes and described by eight independent genetic and mating struture parameters. Mating systems are significant because (i) they control homozygosity of offspring, (ii) they affect the covariance of quantitative characters between sibs and (iii) they determine resource allocation to structures of different sex.
