The paper addresses the issue of surface/surface intersections in a solid modeling environment. The surfaces that are considered are ``trimmed surfaces'', meaning that their (rectangular) domains have been reduced by curves in the domains, often by means of surface/surface intersections. The description of the intersections as algebraic curves is emphasized, and an appendix on the basics of algebraic geometry is provided.
