Several explicit criteria of absolute stability for the real second canonical form of the control system \[ \dot x_ i=-\rho_ ix_ i+\sigma \quad (i=1,...,n);\quad {\dot \sigma}=\sum^{n'}_{i=1}\beta_ ix_ i-p\sigma -rf(\sigma) \] are given, which generalize and include the known result of \textit{X. Liao} [Appl. Math. Mech., Engl. Ed. 3, 267-279 (1982; Zbl 0524.93051)]. By applying these criteria to the well known equations of the longitudinal motion of an aircraft, a result that generalizes and includes the known results of \textit{A. A. Piontkovskij} and \textit{L. D. Rurkovskaya} [Avtom. Telemekh. 1967, No.10, 23-31 (1967; Zbl 0189.156)], \textit{A. N. Michel} [SIAM J. Control 12, 554-579 (1974; Zbl 0289.93041)], and X. Liao (loc. cit.) is obtained.
