In some practical problems arising in audio digital signal processing, such as on-line spectrum modification, one must change abruptly the filter coefficient set (FCS). It is to be expected and it has been experimentally proven that this change produces a transient whose amplitude may exceed that of the output signal before. Here, a solution to overcome this difficulty is proposed. Namely, instead of passing from the old to the new FCS one uses an intermediate FCS, which clearly provides some degrees of freedom. Three optimization procedures are proposed and they can be implemented without increasing the complexity of the calculus. The model signal used in the optimization techniques was white noise and the experiments have proved the validity of the derived procedures.
