Let G be a complex semisimple algebraic group and H a unipotent subgroup normalized by a maximal torus T of G. Let \(\nu\) be an element of the root lattice. If \(\lambda\) is a sufficiently large dominant character of T then the dimension of the space of H-fixed vectors of T-weight \(\lambda\)- \(\nu\) in the finite dimensional rational irreducible G-module of highest weight \(\lambda\) is equal to the number of partitions of \(\nu\) into positive roots not belonging to H. The proof illustrates the effectiveness of the Bruhat decomposition in representation theory.
