In this paper sets \({\mathcal T}_{tu}\) of integers \[ (*)\quad s=\frac{t^{xy}-u^{xy}}{t^ x-u^ x},\quad x,y\in {\mathbb{N}},\quad y\geq 2 \] are considered, for relatively prime positive integers t and u. These so-called (t,u)-folding numbers generalize the folding numbers introduced by the authors in their paper [Math. Intell. 7, No.1, 15-26 (1985; Zbl 0557.51006); see also ``Geometry in practice and numbers in theory'', (Monograph in Undergraduate Mathematics 16) (1987)], and which are obtained by setting \((t,u)=(2,1)\) in (*). The number-theoretic properties of the numbers s are investigated by applying elementary divisibility techniques.
