Consider the second-order system with the Dirichlet boundary conditions: \[ (*)\quad \frac{d^ 2}{dt^ 2}=F(t,x,\epsilon)\frac{dx}{dt}+g(t,x,\epsilon),\quad for\quad 0<t<1, \] \[ x(0,\epsilon)=\alpha (\epsilon),\quad and\quad x(1,\epsilon)=\beta (\epsilon), \] where the given function F is an \(n\times n\) matrix-valued function, and the given g, \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are n-valued functions. These data functions are assumed to be sufficiently smooth. The matrix- valued function F(t,x,0) is given in terms of a vector potential as \(F(t,x,0)=\nabla f(t,x)\), for some suitable, given n-vector-valued function f(t,x). This paper consists three sections. {\S} 1 is an introduction. The O'Malley construction for a proposed approximate solution of (*) is discussed in {\S} 2, and it is shown there that an appropriate Green function leads directly to the existence of a corresponding exact solution for (*). The actual construction of the Green function is given in {\S} 3. There are four appendices and a bibliography of 36 items.
