Let \((w_ n)\) be an increasing and unbounded sequence of real numbers with \(w_ 1=1\). Then a (special) Lorentz sequence space is defined by \[ d(w,p)=\{x=(x_ n):\quad \| x\| =(\sum^{\infty}_{n=1}(x^*_ n)^ p w_ n)^{1/p}<\infty \}, \] where \(x^*_ n=\inf \{y>0:\) \(\lambda_ x(y)\leq n\}\) with \(\lambda_ x(y)=card\{k\in {\mathbb{N}}:\) \(| x_ k| >y\}\). The authors state in Theorem 1 that in case of \(p\leq 1\) the space \((d(w,p),\| \|)\) is not locally convex, \(\ell_ 1\) is the Banach space envelope of d(w,p) and \(\ell_{\infty}\) is the topological dual of d(w,p). In section 2 they examine the more complicated case \(p>1:\) They determine in Theorem 2 and 3 the dual space of d(w,p) and the Banach envelope of d(w,p), respectively. Theorem 3 contains for \(p>1\) a characterization of the spaces d(w,p) being locally convex.
