A Hausdorff topological space X is said to be C-scattered [\textit{R. Telgársky}, Fundam. Math. 73, 59-74 (1971; Zbl 0226.54018)] provided that each of its non-empty closed subspaces contains a compact set with a non-empty relative interior. The authors prove that each countable product of paracompact C-scattered spaces is paracompact. A corollary says that each countable product of Lindelöf C-scattered spaces is Lindelöf. Further, there are investigated hyperspaces of paracompact C- scattered spaces. Typical results: The hyperspace \({\mathcal C}(X)\) of compact subsets (with the Vietoris topology) is an \(A'\)-space (a space whose set of accumulation points is compact) iff X is either compact or discrete. An \(A'\)-space is contained in a superspace which is dense in \({\mathcal C}(X)\) iff X is compact or the interior of the set of accumulation points of X is empty. The main result in the third section of the paper says that the poset of metrically compatible Hausdorff compactifications is a lattice when X is a metrizable \(A'\)-space.
